Prototype & Research
As a design student, I have had very little exposure to science classes. And to be honest, I have worked real hard to make sure it has stayed that way. However, I have a vast interest in female health and wellness specifically but felt that I didn’t know where to learn about it from a credible source. There is a big gap in female health education, where young girls aren’t learning enough about their bodies in school but then adult women do not have time to peruse long research articles, thus causing them to turn to social media. The issue is that the majority of content on social media regarding female hormone health specifically is not research-backed, therefore spreading misinformation or opinions that women take as gospel truth.
For my senior thesis I have decided to design and prototype an app that provides women with short educational courses that are interactive and translated into easily digestible content. Complete with a word bank, handbook, and data base for outside resources, the app aims to fill the gap through allowing women to quickly learn more about their body and empower themselves.
I am currently conducting qualitative research through the Biometrics Lab at the University of South Carolina’s College of Information and Communications to test the successfulness of the design and learning objective.
