United Way of Horry
County x Createathon 2023
Createathon is an annual event USC’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications puts on. The purpose of Createathon is to provide free content to non-profits in the area, all within a 24-hour time period. Students are grouped up and pull an all-nighter to create the necessary content. Non-profits are assigned a group of students, who they provide a list of needs with. I was assigned to United Way of Horry County, who desired posters, website graphics, and social media posts. I tackled the posters! With the help of my mentor, we designed 3 posters that called awareness to United Way’s concern of kindergarten readiness. Check out my designs below!
We used bright colors, while staying consistent with United Way's brand colors, in order to keep the posters eye-catching, making them perfect for doctor's offices, grocery stores, pre-schools, etc.
Using provided imagery of children in the area keeps the designs eye-catching, relatable, and realistic. The statistics were not meant to scare but rather inspire the parents to allow United Way to help them prepare their kids for kindergarten.
United Way's audience was parents with young children preparing for kindergarten. We focused on targeting parents with an empathetic approach.
